Let the music play!

September 2021

The Association’s Board of Directors is actively planning for a 2022 season.  We will, of course, follow all covid - related protocols issued by the state, city, and school district relative to attendance.  Specifics for those that will be in effect next January are not yet available.  However, rest assured that your health is paramount to us and that we will follow established requirements.

As previously announced, the theme for next season is “Back by Popular Demand.”  Accordingly, we will feature groups having appeared with us in previous years that were especially well received.  They are:

• Ilya Yakushev (concert pianist) and Thomas Mesa (cellist)
Past concert goers will recall that Ilya dazzled the audience with his piano pyrotechnics (and, accordingly, was awarded a standing ovation at intermission).  He will be joined this time by Thomas Mesa, an acclaimed cellist.

• Brandon Ridenour (trumpeter) and Peter Duggan (pianist)
Virtuoso trumpeter Brandon Ridenour was the youngest member ever asked to join the Canadian Brass with whom he performed for seven years.  Since then, this Julliard graduate has appeared in major concert halls throughout the world.  He will be joined again by pianist Peter Duggan, who stunned concert attendees with his arrangement of “In the Hall of the Mountain King.”

• Andy Hackbarth (classical guitarist)
Mind-bending classical guitar so pure it will make you weep for joy,” is what one recent reviewer had to say about Andy Hackbarth.  His “Tribute to Andres Segovia” performed at his first appearance with us a few years ago garnered our largest attendance at any concert in the past decade.

• Prima Trio
Featuring a pianist, clarinetist and violinist, all of whom are graduates of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, the Prima Trio has performed throughout the United States and Europe. The group has won top prizes in various chamber music events including the grand prize at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition where it competed against 137 groups from around the world!

Presently, we await confirmation from The Richards Center for the Arts for venue availability for these groups. As soon as that is received, we will be in contact with you relative to the purchase of concert tickets.

Many of you will recall that Trio Confero was to have performed at our last concert in 2020 but was unable to do so because of the covid pandemic.  Some of you who purchased tickets for that concert contributed them back to the Association; others requested refunds and still others asked to use purchased tickets for a rescheduled concert of that group.  It is not possible for us to schedule Trio Confero in 2022 because of visa difficulties of one of the performers.  Accordingly, we will offer a substitute concert with a similar group for which there will be no charge for those of you who asked that your Trio tickets be applied to a future concert.  (We have a record of such people!)   For those of you not fitting into that category, tickets will be available for purchase.  This will be a stand-alone concert and not part of our subscription package.  We are currently finalizing details for this performance, which should be available within the next few weeks.

In the meantime, we have a FREE offering for you!  In October, we will be offering a virtual concert to be performed by The Maxwell Quartet, the group of Scottish lads who performed for us a few years ago to a very enthusiastic audience.  Related details will be sent well in advance of the concert.   Wait – there’s more!  In December we will offer a virtual concert featuring Svetlana Smolina, the pianist who electrified our audience a few years ago.

We are eager to welcome you back to the PS Concerts stage and are very much looking forward to your return.  Specific information with respect to ordering tickets for next year will be sent to you just as soon as our events are confirmed by The Richards Center for the Arts.  Meanwhile, be safe – and be well.

Sincerely,

Christopher W. Seidel, President
For the Board of Directors
